Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about therapy, somatic work, and working together.

The first session is about getting to know each other. We’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, your history, and your goals. It’s also a chance for you to see if you feel comfortable working with me. My approach is warm, curious, and collaborative—there’s no pressure.

Individual and couples therapy sessions are 50 minutes. If needed, extended sessions can be arranged.

It depends on your goals and what you’re working through. Some people find relief in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is moving at the right pace for you.

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between mind and body. Rather than just talking about experiences, we tune into body sensations, breath, and movement to access emotions and healing that talk therapy alone may not reach. It’s particularly effective for trauma, anxiety, and nervous system regulation.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process traumatic or distressing memories. During sessions, I’ll guide you through bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) while you focus on a specific memory. Over time, the memory loses its emotional charge so it no longer controls your reactions.

Walk and talk therapy combines the healing effects of nature with the benefits of therapy. Sessions take place outdoors while walking, which can feel more natural and less intimidating than a traditional office setting. It’s especially beneficial for those who respond well to movement and nature.

Yes. I offer secure video sessions for clients in California and Washington. Online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions for most concerns, and many clients prefer the convenience of meeting from home.

I do not bill insurance directly. I provide superbills (detailed receipts) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many PPO plans offer out-of-network benefits. I also offer lower cost fee slots—inquire if interested.

Yes. I am CNM certified through the Institute for Relational Intimacy and work with couples in all types of relationships—including polyamorous, open, and consensually non-monogamous partnerships. My approach is inclusive and nonjudgmental.

Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential, with limited exceptions required by law (such as imminent danger to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a child or elder). I’ll review these exceptions with you at the start of treatment.
